NISA has always been pretty good with releasing games that are unique, whimsical, and lovable all in one. A Witch's Tale is no different. You are Liddell, an adorable, yet slightly mischevious witch who is one day looking for a spell, only to release a nasty old hag that used to rain heck on the village. As the person who released her, it is now Liddell's job to seal her back up.

All of the characters look quite intriguing. I'm curious to know who is doing the illustrations for this game. From what I can tell of the game, it seems to be a genuine RPG, played from the first person's perspective during battle (think Earthbound). The game is compromised of many dolls, which are how Liddell casts her magic. By having a certain doll equipped, she will have different abilities. It also seems that some dolls can actually become allies.

They are utilizing the touch screen slightly from what I can tell, but nothing too over the top: drag and drop spells, menu navigation, etc. I'm a strict follower of NISA, so this game will probably end up in my collection. Thoughts?

Hasfusel declares this an HMDS RIPOFF

Look at the characters list, they've got copies of the Harvest Witch, Keria and Leia the Mermaid, and a vampire version of Skye? Also, the whole "Ooops my spell went wrong and released a super powerful witch now I have to go fix it" is two words different from the HMDS plotline.
The only cool looking part is the funky old woman. Oh, and the pumpkin umbrella.

I don't know why I found so much amusement in this post. I feel like I need a poll at the top of all of my game findings with "Hasfusel Approves" or "Hasfusel Disapproves" at the top. Haha

You're a smart man, in a couple of years everything sold in the high street will have a "Hasfusel Approves" mark on it.

I might buy this game possibly if I see it cheap some time later. It could be interesting and the art looks good. It'd be something to play around halloween (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasmile.gif)

I think so. As long as they don't totally butcher the RPG system of it, I think it'll be quite successful. Err, as successful as these sleeper games can get.

NISA. <3

A friend of mine had been talking about this, so I decided to take peak. The goth/loli/creepy feel is right up my alley, though there aren't many gameplay details even on the Japanese site... But the the art and story look delightfully fairytail-gone-mad, plus NISA hasn't let me down yet, so I hope to get it when it comes out.

Isn't Kaguya the girl in okami that is from the moon that goes back halfway into the game through a spaceship?

Yes, yes she is.

This game doesn't really appeal to me. I'm looking forward to getting The Another World when it gets its NCSW release. Its being done in part by Studio Ghibli. :3

Kaguya is derived from Kaguya-hime, the main character in a 10th century Japanese folk lore "Taketori Monogatari". She appears in a lot of differed forms of Japanese culture. A Witch's Tale's lands are loosely based on famous fairy tales around the world. Hansel & Gretel, Alice in Wonderland, and thus Taketori Monogatari.

Thank you for that Miitan. I had no idea about some of that stuff. It's quite interesting.

Aha! I knew it! She lives with the old bamboo man. Yay for video game culture references! :3

My pleasure, Peter.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any guesses about what the other lands might be based off? I think Oceria and it's princess might be based on The Little Mermaid, but I have no idea about the desert girl or "has a lion tail with braids" girl.
