Mystery revealed!

Pokemon were given to everyone who used the word "the" between the period of 10:45pm to midnight on August 23. The Pokemon assigned was calculated by taking the user's id and modulating it by 493; a value of 0 would have resulted in Arceus.

The truth would have deterred from the randomness of the experience. So I refused to answer questions.
