A lot of people were involved in it, it's not like DaVinci sat in his room and doodled it in his notebook. If I had to attribute it to a single person, probably Shigeru Miyamoto, though he wouldn't have been able to do it without the direction and support of Satoru Iwata, and the game design philosophies of Gunpei Yokoi.

If you're stuck with odd numbers of people, you could always make a Loser Bracket, where people who lose get to fight eachother in a chance to redeem themselves and get back into the running.

And yeah, there should be those loser round things! The two losers of this round will go up against each other!

Lenyo, let me know when a good time for you is. Ideally we should pick a specific time and date and we'll both be on for it as opposed to hoping we're both on the forums at the same time and try to make it work.
