Haha aww I remember when I was an alter server.

So yeah, I currently work at Starbucks. It's tough finding jobs right now so I'm lucky I have it, I suppose. I make $9.10 an hour and then with tips it works out to around $9.85 an hour. I might be promoted to shift supervisor, which would mean a raise to $10.50 an hour (plus tips) so that would be cool, but I'm not sure if I really want the extra responsibility. It's an alright job... sucks sometimes. I get stuck with a lot of closing shifts which means I work 2-10:30pm a lot, and that kinda sucks. I got it because I worked in another coffee shop and I went down to starbucks and was like "hire me!" and I interview VERY well hahah. It's a gift. I think I've gotten almost every job I've ever applied to (until recently because no one is hiring anymore.)

I've had a lot of jobs though. I've been working since I was 14... normally one job during the school year and then 2-3 jobs during the summers.

I got a response back about a possible internship. It probably won't be paid at the moment, but hopefully it could turn into an actual job. I figured I needed to exercise some other options and what do you know? I actually received an e-mail this morning :0 Maybe this could be a good route for me.

A friend of mine is working for the company and put in a good word for me. I actually was offered an internship position before with the company, but had to turn it down due to scheduling issues.

Now I'm waiting back to hear a reply regarding work examples. Maybe before 5 o'clock or tomorrow morning.

I hope it turns out well... and eventually turns into a job. What would you be doing in the company?

I would be programming for games. I'm not sure if it'll be web development or stand game programming though.

Unbelievable to me, I was actually offered two interviews this morning. One is a small local game developer as an intern, and the other is a *very large* game company with a paid position but out of town. While the choice may seem obvious to most, I think I'm going to follow through with the one I feel most comfortable and happy with.

I'm being intentionally vague as this is a public topic :P Ask me in my questions thread or PM me if you're curious.

I plan to start an internship next week =\ Looks like I won't have a real time job until sometime next year. In the meantime, I have no idea what I'm doing for income.

The History of Peter's Employment!

Delivering Newspapers (Pittsburgh Post Gazette) (Age:13-16) - This job SUCKED. You woke up at 1AM, to put the papers in the little green baggies, and then delivered them to the houses. People were picky as all get out too! Most wanted it on their porch, some wanted it on their roof, and then there were the weird ones where you had to like crawl to the back of the house and stick it under their steps or something, next to the creepy gargoyle. I got paid pennies too ($50 bucks a month), it wasn't worth it at all. :(

Wendy's (Age 16-18) - Oh Saffy, I'm so sorry you had to deal with this crap too. You're absolutely right, the people you worked with could be a lot of fun, but the management! They were so disorganized and crazy about everything. It was just awful. This is one job I'll never ever try and get rehired at. Well, unless I absolutely had no other options. Got paid about $6.00-$6.35 per hour here, and did everything from registers to cooking.

Hollywood Video (Age: 17-19) - This job wasn't so bad, it was just always so slow. I'm the kind of guy that needs to keep busy, but I was always caught up on my work here. It was horrid. But it was a movie rental place, so what did I expect? By the time I worked here, things like NetFlix and what have you were becoming increasingly popular, so people didn't want to physically rent their movies anymore. I was paid about $6.50 an hour here.

Progressive Cleaning Solutions (Age 18-20) - This job paid well, but it was slavery I tell you. Cleaning toilets and mopping floors mostly. Granted it was in commercial buildings, such as doctor's offices and such, but still. Toilets?! Ugh. Needless to say, I'm a very neat person now, and can't stand the sight of dirt. Haha. I was paid about $650 a month.

EB Games/Gamestop (Age: 19-22) - By far my favorite job, and not for the obvious reason. My manager and I had become really good friends, and he is seriously one of the most wonderful people I know. He and I still talk on occasion, and he invites me to his cookouts. He's an amazing chef. Haha. But the job was retail, so I soldgames. I got paid $7.15 an hour here.

Residence Inn Marriot (Only a few months while being 21) - This place was horrid. I was a houseman, so I cleaned the halls and exterior of the hotels. It was awful. They treated me like crap, and expected me to cover other peoples dirty work when they didn't feel like doing it. Thanks to them, I have a bitter taste about hotels. I got paid $8.50 an hour though, which wasn't all that bad at the time.

The Home Depot (21-Current) - And now I'm here. I love THD greatly. There are still issues, but you'll have that with each job. You can't really get around it, no matter how hard you try, you know? This job entails of me pushing the shopping carts back into the building, and helping people load stuff into their vehicle if it's too heavy for them alone. I'm actually in the process of working towards a promotion, so here's hoping to that. My current pay is $9.75 an hour, which calculates to about $580 every two weeks. If you're looking for a stable job and don't mind some grunt work, I would recommend THD to everyone. They have awesome benefits plans too, for those of you looking to invenst in a 401K or live on your own and need health benefits.

Now, some of these jobs I worked two at a time. I needed to always make my ends meet and then some. Haha. (At one point I had three jobs. It was nuts.) But there you have it. My employment history. I tried applying to Square-Enix, but they must hate me for buying all their games. Heh.

As of Tuesday I will be starting my internship with Bitcasters. (Assuming nothing happens between now and then.) Currently I'm planning four days a week at five hours per day. This will probably adjust to six or seven hours, maybe even eight, as time goes on. I'll certainly need to make more room for a part-time job should that arise.

I don't feel so bad about taking the internship. To be completely fair, it's not like I'm doing anything right now. I don't have a part-time job, so really it's all a step in the right direction. I'm a little iffy on making a four month commitment, but I've come up with a plan to really strengthen my skills, portfolio, and resume over the next while and I think come January I'll be in a much better position to get a career started. So that's exciting!

Apparently I'll be working on their Storm Hawks game :] That should be pretty fun.

Ooh Job History? Fun! I have had too many jobs since a lot of them were only for a summer.

Babysitting (Age 12-14/Ongoing) - I babysat full time one summer... 9-5 monday-friday for two months. I made like 8 bucks an hour, when minimum wage was 6.50 and I was 12 so not bad. I don't babysit much anymore but I totally would if someone asked me... I love kids so much it's stupid. I also babysat for younger cousins and whatnot quite often.

Hostess/Information (15) - My first "real" job. I worked in a bird sanctuary and I had like butterfly displays up and I knew a bunch about all the birds in the area and what not. I worked for the "salmon arm bay nature enhancement society" and once a week I'd have to go out onto the wharf and count the birds that were out there, since salmon arm was one of two grebe nesting spots in western bc and we had to make sure their numbers weren't declining. We had a few ospereys and pelicans too. I also had to send out letters to businesses in the town asking for funding. It was a pretty sweet and relaxed first job... I only got it because I spoke french. It was a summer time only thing though. Since it was sort of with the city I got paid like 7 bucks an hour. My bosses were all hilarious 80 year old men, I loved it when we would have "meetings" haha.

Bootlegger (16) Bleh at working in retail. I hated my coworkers, I hated my shifts, I hated my job. I hated that we had quotas we had to meet but weren't actually paid commission. My managers sucked... my coworkers were all seriously stupid and most of them still work there like 4 years later. Minimum wage was up to like 7.50 or something at this point, that's what I was getting paid.

Front desk at Gym (17) This was such a sweet job. It was a tiny little gym that like no one ever went to and I had to take a special course because of the equipment we had so I got paid like 11 an hour. We had a massage table and we worked by ourselves so I would always just fall asleep on the massage table and I'd wake up if anyone came in (which they never did.) Eventually the lady sold the place because they were losing money (probably because she was paying us so much haha) so I left that job.

Restaurant Expediter (17) This was a really fun job too. We got paid minimum wage plus tips. I basically ran food from the kitchen to the tables in a super fancy restaurant. I got along well with the other expediters (the servers were all a bit older than us) and whenever we weren't doing anything we got to eat the bread that you get when you're waiting for food, so that was sweet. I worked really hard at that job so the head chef liked me a lot so that was really helpful... he didn't like one of my coworkers so much and kind of gave him a hard time.

Swim Teacher/Lifeguard (17-18) Definitely my favourite job I've ever had. I got to be around kids all day, playing around in an outdoor pool during the summer. I got amazing tans, I worked with two of my best friends, I got paid 13 bucks an hour... life was great.

Barista (18) At my mom's coffee shop. I made 9 bucks an hour plus tips. It was also a great job. I worked with mostly sweet staff and the one girl that we hated left after a month so that was awesome. I worked with my mom and my little brother so that was fun. It was just a fun job in general.

Starbucks (19) Yay, where I am now. Still a barista. It's an okay job... I get paid 9.10 an hour plus tips but I'll get a raise in September so that's awesome. I really like my coworkers and we hang out outside of work all the time so that's a good time. It looks great on a resume and I know that I'm good at my job so I just stick with it.

If you notice ages, one summer I worked 3 jobs (at the gym, at the pool and at the restaurant) and I worked about 70 hours a week. The next summer I only had the two jobs (pool and the coffee shop) but I was still pulling in 70 hour weeks. I got paid a LOT of money those two summers!

Having multiple jobs was amazing financially, but boy did it take a toll on me physically. I felt so drained after a double job day. I'm sure you felt the same way working three jobs and such (my three jobs time period was only for a few months, but I couldn't take it much longer than that, it was brutal).

I loved my jobs so it wasn't that bad actually. Now I'm in school so I can only handle one job at a time. My schedule most days was pool from 6am-1pm, coffee shop from 2pm-6:30pm. saturdays I worked only at the coffee shop 9-5, sundays I worked only at the pool for a long shift... 8am-6pm. the first 3 hours I got to lounge around in my bikini blasting music and vacuuming... it was great.

So I'm working on the Storm Hawks MMO nowadays. I finally got into actually programming on the game, though I've really only had two tasks. I made it so weapons animate when you equip or remove them. Gasp! It's not in the current version though, but it will be soon I'd imagine. I'm now fixing some glitch with the login screen.

I have to say it's incredibly weird that people are actually playing this game. I work on it everyday and I play it everyday. Yet I've always felt it was just a small project. I'm truly surprised and amazed that there are even YouTube videos of people playing it. There's such a great feeling in knowing you're working on something that people enjoy <3

The game doesn't yet have physics in it. Also, I'm going to have to try this glitch tomorrow.

I totally thought I posted on this thread before. I work at Culvers, which isn't as bad as "fast food" as I atleast believe. They drilled into our head about hygiene, and they are ALWAYS watching us so it's a pretty clean resturant. ='D My bosses have cameras everywhere, I've seen them when I ate in the office once when we were busy. They even have some at home to watch us from home, which that's totally not creepy. Anyways, it's technically my only official job I've ever had.
Before Culvers though I owned and worked at a Maid Cafe at our local anime convention and made like 80$ working 8 hours of fun. Thus my maid Mimi picture that was up a while ago, that's where it's from. Now I take comissions and get quiet a bit of pay out of it, I make cosplay costumes and style wigs for a lot of money. I even make accessories and such onceand a while, a little extra money from all of that to support my expensive hobby of Cosplaying .

Ahaha. I have no job. Sadly. I wish I did. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalasad.gif) But next year, when I turn 17, I'm probably going to apply for Game Stop. I'll work there until I get out of college, or maybe quit during college, when I'm going to be a police officer. I'm hoping that I'll do so good that I'll get a promotion to detective, and I might publish one or two fantasy books on the side. It's taken me this long to figure out that I've wanted to do this with my life. :)

Pfft, I don't need to work, but I'd like a job because it's boring just staying around at home all day. I haven't had to work since 2006.

I make little knit/crocheted trinkets to give to people sometimes. But that doesn't really count since I don't make money off them. But I have so much yarn right now, I don't have to spend money to make them, either! So it's all good.

I'm a transcript away from applying to become a substitute teacher for elementary school - and I'm pretty sure I'd get accepted for that, since the local school district really needs substitutes. I've heard that they treat their substitutes terribly, though (don't most school districts?), but I'd like to try it anyway. I want to become a teacher. I especially want to teach English to people who speak another language. I have my TEFL certification, but I'm having trouble finding a job. It seems that most EFL programs in schools here are either canceled due to budget cuts, or they have all the staff they need. Same goes for classes for adults. I want to try subbing to decide exactly whether I want to teach children or not. I don't need a full-fledged teaching license(s) to sub.

Problem is, they want me to send them an electronic version of my transcript. Which I don't have. And I can't get. So I have to fill out the paperwork to get my university to send my transcript, wait for it to come, and then find out where the district's central office is and bring the unopened envelope to them. I can't mail it to them for some reason. I have to bring it in person.

I don't think I can do all that before school starts (school starts the 24th), so... But we'll probably be moving to Dallas in a couple of months, anyway, so I guess I'd best wait.
