According to my brother, there was an arcade version and it included a guy named Pizza Pasta. Doesn't show him doing anything stereotypically Italian, though. And I guess there was a guy called Mad Clown in Super Punch Out who was a palette swap of Bear Hugger.

This should help explain it.

TB's question reminded me of the video that prompted him to ask the question.
