I thought you only get to play as the main characters/villains? Either way they have Bartz, Kefka, and Zidane so I'm set.

You do only get to play the main Villian and Hero. With two bonus characters from FFXI and FFXII.
My friend imported this, he says its badass. It looks like it. I'll grab it for sure. Almost imported it. Probably play as Zidane or the over popular Cloud and Squall. Though I heard Cloud is kind of garbage, because his moves are slow. |

Not a fan of FF. Only know Cloud and Squall from KH, and Zidane from badass twin blade gameplay videos.

I watched a video and it's kinda crazy, a lot of flying around and crazy looking combos and things like that. I've also heard it's not nearly as complicated as it looks, however. I think it's the kind of game you need to play or else you'll never understand it.
Kefka's as batshit insane as ever. PS: Tolby, if you like badass twin-bladery, you might like Gabranth better. |

How do Bartz and Onion Knight even work? Them being from games that let you customize your guys and stuff.

I don't even know how the regular fighting system works, but I noticed everyone has like, super crazy modes and then they can top it off with a special move. For example, Bartz turns into a Master Mime and does an attack using everyone's weapons, Terra transforms into her esper form and does some crazy claw attack, and Cloud pulls out the Ultima Weapon and does Omnislash. The execution of the moves seems to vary by game, like Squall does his trigger thingy from his limit break. Anyway I really don't understand the mechanics so I can't answer your question.
I didn't get far into 10 but Jecht is badass for having a beard. |

Okay after a little bit of digging, I have finally found this topic to share with you that I have just finished playing the demo! It was really good, at least for a demo, and I hope they are heading in this direction for good when it comes to the final game. Alas, there are some things I hope they change, but onward with the experience.
When you first pop it in, you are greeted by the famous prelude you are all familiar with. Ah, brings tears to my eyes. Heh. Anyways, that's pretty much what this game is about: nostalgia to the max. There are things in this game that you just freak out and are like, "OMG I REMEMBER THAT!" For example, when fighting against Titus, the song that plays is the Ramstein (sorry, I butchered that name) song that's all crazy screamo and such. You'll have a lot of those moments from their attack names, to music, and maybe to some, the levels (I couldn't really tell where we were fighting by looking at it). The graphics are really good, and the characters are fleshed out properly. I was a little skeptical because they sort of altered their looks from what I have originally seen them all at, however, it's nothing to be worried about. The environments are destructable, and even the walls make holes when you get slammed into them, however they magically regenerate once you fall off? I don't get the point of that, but whatever. It lets you break the wall once more. The gameplay is unique. You start the game locked on to whomever you're fighting, but you can hit L at any point and free roam as much as you'd like (or until you get the snot beat out of you). Moving is fluid, you don't really get stuck anywhere, and the triangle button is key. It lets you air grind (special areas where you can soar across beams of light), run up and down walls and pillars, and dash forwards and backwards from your opponent. It sort of feels like how a DBZ game should be, but never was. Haha. The objective of the game is to defeat your opponent by bringing his/her HP to 0. However, they add in a feature called... called... You know what, it's slipped my mind at the moment. Haha. But it's those really HUGE numbers you see in the videos. There are two types of attacks, one that hurt HP, and one that hurt those big numbers. The more of those big numbers you have, the more damage your attacks do. If you remove an opponents numbers completely, they go into what's called a 'Break' mode, where they take insane amounts of damage. It's the perfect time to dish out a grade A butt whoopin. The final aspect that I seen were the EX-Attacks. Periodically, an EX-Gem falls from the sky, and picking up enough of them can send you in EX-mode for a short time. You engage it yourself by pressing R and square, making your character glow and possibly giving them a new look. If you can land just one physical attack, then you can use your EX-attack simply by hitting square. After this, depending on who you're being, you get to input a combination, or mash a button or two to execute the attack. The opposing side can defend it, but only by a percentage. They are devastating though, and I feel a key part of this game. However, it is possible to destroy your opponent within 15 seconds and not touch an Ex-gem. So there's no cheating. Heh. Overall, as I said, I like the feel of the game. If something in here I explained doesn't make sense, or you have more questions, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer them. Oh, and for your drooling pleasure, the characters that I was able to use, and fight against. Onion Knight - EX-Attack: Job Change - The onion knight changes his job into a ninja, where the old school menu pops up, you can pick attack, magic, throw, or ... something else. Haha. It's pretty cool looking. Cecil - EX-Attack: Dark Attack - Cecil switches between his light and dark forms, smashing the enemy around the field with all sorts of pretty. :D Terra - EX-Attack:Trance - Before you even initiate this, she's already in her esper form, which looks amazing to begin with, but she unleashes the fury when you can connect with it. It's awesome. Plus she's absolutely adorable. Cloud - EX-Attack: Omnislash - It's awesome, right as you engage in your EX-Attack he equips Ultima Weapon or whatever it was called for the fight. Haha. But for those of you who may not know what this is, it's a brutal array of attacks. I don't think anyone survived when I used this. Sephiroth - EX-Attack:??? - I don't remember what it was called, but when you engage it, you grow a black wing from your back. I know, pretty sweet right? Haha. Anyways, he pretty much engulfs you in flames from heck. I think it was actually called heck's something or other. Haha. And I fought: Squall, Tidus, Firion, Warrior of Light, And Cloud of... something. I forget again. Haha. Sue me, I played through it in a matter of minutes. I was just as excited as everyone else. :P Anyways, enjoy! |

I cannot wait for this game to come out! I've played the demo several times and I never get tired of it! My favorite people to play as on the demo is Cecil and Sephiroth, but I'm sure that will change when I get the full game.

I thought my favorite was going to be Cecil, but I don't like the way his light/dark abilities are just randomly switched. I wish there was a little more control over them (such as Zelda/Sheik from SSBB). I do like the game a lot though. Out of the demo characters, I enjoyed playing as the Onion Knight and Terra. I thought Cecil would be my favorite, but he just didn't make the cut.

Probably Super Nova, his big move from the final battle in FF7 that took like, a year to watch the animation (as an explosion blows up planets one by one) and couldn't kill you cuz it was percent based. I don't have a PSP so I won't be finding out though. Anyway Bartz rulez schoolz. |

I just got on PSN last night and downloaded the demo. My initial impression is that I want more combos. While playing Terra, I just spammed her midair tornado attack, because I didn't know what I was doing. x] Playing Onion Knight was fun too(Love his EX special), and I just sucked with Cecil. The whole switching between dark and light modes confused me..

I agree, Miitan. Everything you said practically sums up my thoughts. I was the same way with Terra, since her Flood was pretty much useless. Haha.

You can save the replays, edit them and turn them into movies.
