Anyone here hear about this? It was just released May 3rd. Its a short film, forty minutes long, based on a story from The Lord of the Rings appendices. They do quite a good job on it.

I loooooove LOTR but do not have good enough computer to watch a 40 minute movie. It'll most likely lock up. :(

I watched the trailer, it looked very professional. I'll have a look later, LOTR is excellent.
On that note, did you know they're making two films about The Hobbit and what happened between said book and the Lord of the Rings? It will be directed by Guillermo del Toro ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) ) and will definately star Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) ) with the possibility of Hugo Weaving, Viggo Mortesen and Christopher Lee ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalagrin.gif) ). Looking forwards to that, especially since I watched del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth yesterday and loved it. I think these films will be amazing. |

I thought Peter Jackson was directing the Hobbit? If he's not I'll still be happy with del Toro.
I really can't wait for The Hobbit to come out... Have they given us a date yet or is it still just 2010? Also.. Will Viggo be playing a different character or will they add his character into the story? :S |

Peter Jackson won't be directing himself due to an argument he had with New Line Cinemas over how much money he got out of the LOTR games and franchise. But he will be helping, and doing some of the writing. It's still just 2010, I think. I don't know if they've even gotten into filming properly yet, since most of the roles are still undecided. I'm sure they wouldn't cast Viggo Mortesen as somebody else, that would be confusing. If he does have a role, it will be as Aragorn. It probably will involve his hunt for Gollum, like in this fan film. One film is about The Hobbit (mainly featuring Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis; no idea who will play Bilbo. It certainly won't be Ian Holme again, he's really old now), while the second will be about what happens next, and should be the attack on this place by Gandalf and the White Council - this would involve Ian McKellan, Christopher Lee as Saruman, Cate Blanchett (hurrah for my second favourite actress) as Galadriel, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and that guy who played Celeborn in the first film. At least, I hope so; It'll be nice to see all these great actors again, and besides having new ones would be really confusing. I think that if they can't get the original actor for a particular part, they'll just cut that part out. It's Christoper Lee I really hope will get a part, since he said he might be too old to go back to New Zealand. He is another of my favourite actors.

Ugh... Why must these great actors age lol.
I wonder who will play the dwarves and if there will be as many as there are in the book. Also Beorn... Hmmm.. Now all I'll think about is who's going to play these parts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) |

Is that who's actually going to play him or just an idea?
I'm not sure... Obviously they'd have to make him look taller and bigger but he's not that bad for Beorn. Maybe someone more burley... Are there really any burley actors...? |

It's an idea, because in the film's I've seen him he's always effectively played a feral and violent character with a soft heart at the centre, which is basically Beorn. He'd look the part, too, execpt as you said he'd have to be bigger and burlier. I can't think of any really big actors; apart from maybe that massive guy from Harry Potter, but everyone knows him as Hagrid now and you couldn't convice anyone he was playing a different role.
There's also the possibility they'll get John Rhys-Davis to play a younger version of Gloin. |

Yeah... Coltrane {Hagrid} would be good for that part but it would be kind of stupid if he played another huge person.
I hope they do a good job with this one. I'm sure they will considering the LOTR movies were so good but you never know. |

The problem is that whenever you get a really good movie and they make a follow up, the follow up tends to suck real bad in comparison and you go away feeling disappointed. The only exception I can think of off the top of my head was the second Shrek film (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) (although by the same note, the third one was rubbish...)
Then again, the Hobbit has already been written and it's awesome; it's not some old rubbish the filmmakers came up with in an attempt to squeeze more money out of their success (cough cough all the classic disney films, e.g. "Cinderella 2", "Snow White 2", "The Little Mermaid 2" etc.) As good directors, I trust their decisions to pick really good actors, because that is what makes the film in the end. |

I highly doubt that. Aren't dwarves supposed to be fat and have lots of hair? It doesn't look like those two, whoever the he|| they are, can even grow some facial hair.
I think this is just some stupid rumour people are making up while we wait for the real list of actors. But seriously, this film is probably already being filmed so they most likely have most of the actors picked out already. And I thought it was being released in 2010, I'm going to cry now, I don't want to wait. |

Filming won't start till maybe late 2010, so you have a while to wait.
"Jedward" are two annoyingly camp twins who were obscenely popular on the X Factor. If they become dwarves Peter Jackson is going down. |

I doubt they will really be playing dwarves. Seriously doubt. And if they do, well then they better grow some facial hair (if they can) and get fat really soon.

^ And chop some of their height off. -.-
I think they'll be filming sooner than that... A movie like this takes a looooong time to make with all the special effects they will have to use. Just look how long it took them to make the first LOTR. And a lot of movies lie about when they start filming so they don't get people finding out where they're shooting ect.. |
