Getting your Farm Going

You are starting a new farm life on the Sunflower Islands. By raising crops
and taking care of animals like cows and sheep, you can make money by
producing farmed goods. You can create an income by putting these goods into
the shipping box. Also, by talking with the other residents of the islands
and becoming friends with them, you can create possibilities for new events.

Getting New Islands to Surface

In the course of the game, you may get items called "Sun Stones". Using the
power of the Sun Stones, you can raise sunken islands from the deep. If new
islands surface, you may be able to grow new crops, or gather mushrooms or
ores.

Time and Seasons

Time passes automatically as the game progresses and the season will change
every 30 days. The crops that can be grown change with the seasons, and
different events are also held in each season.

Spring

This is the season for growing turnips and potatoes. The Sheep Festival and
Horse Competition also take place in spring.

Summer

Summer is the season for growing tomatoes and onions. Events for this season
include the Fireworks Festival and the Fishing Competition.

Autumn

You can grow eggplant and green peppers in autumn. The Pumpkin Festival also
takes place, where you give treats to children.

Winter

With the snow that has accumulated on the islands, the Snow Festival is one of
the festivals that happens in winter. None of the basic crops can be grown
during this season.

Stamina and Fullness (Hunger)

You lose stamina while working on the farm. Also, if you work for a long time
without eating, you will become hungry, which is indicated by a decrease in
fullness. If you run out of stamina or become too hungry, you will not be
able to do any more work for that day. Stamina is recovered by sleeping at
home and hunger is reduced by eating food.

Money and Shopping

By putting produce from your farm into your shipping box, you can earn money.
Produce can include any crops that you have grown or any products you collect
from your cows, chickens or other animals. You can use your money to purchase
new animals or seeds for new crops, upgrades for your farm or for shopping.
Your goods to be shipped are collected every day at 5 p.m., and you will also
be paid for them at this time. Any items put into the shipping box after
5 p.m. will be collected the next day.

The Facilities on Your Farm

There are a variety of facilities on your farm which will help you with your
day to day activities. Try to learn the different functions of each facility.
Also, through upgrading your farm, you can gain new facilities.

Your House

This is your house. Here you can do things like sleep to renew your stamina
or check your calendar.

The Field

This is the place on your farm where you can grow crops. After tilling soil
with your hoe, sow seeds to grow them.

The Shipping Box

You can earn money by putting crops or produce from your livestock into the
shipping box. Shipments are collected at five o'clock in the evening and you
will be paid for them at that time.

The Pet Stable

This is the place where you keep pets like your dog or horse. You can acquire
pet through things like events.

The Shed for Building Materials

This is the place where building materials for upgrades are kept. You can
keep wood and other materials here.

The Place for Collecting Water

This is the place where you can fill your watering can. When your watering
can is empty, come here to fill it.

Raising Animals

You can raise a variety of animals on your farm. If you keep cows or
chickens, they can produce milk or eggs that can be shipped.

How to Raise Animals

You need to feed your animals every day. Put enough animal feed in the
feeding stations as needed to feed each animal. Also, animals like physical
contact and the more they get, the higher their level of affection. To touch
an animal, touch it with the touch pen or approach it and press the A button.

Keeping Your Animals Healthy

Your animals can be in one of three different conditions: healthy, unhappy or
sick. When your animals are either unhappy or sick, they cannot produce any
goods for you to ship. They may become unhappy if you neglect to feed them or
pet them. Sick animals can be cured with (animal medicine), which
is sold at the animal shop.

The Main Animals You Can Raise

Chickens

Adult chickens will lay an egg every day. In order to raise chickens, you
first need to build a chicken coop.

Cows & Sheep

You can get milk from grown cows and wool from grown sheep. In order to keep
cows and sheep, you first need to build a barn.

Pets

Animals like dogs, cats and horses you can keep as pets. Although they do not
produce any items you can ship, you can still enjoy playing games with them.

[P.31]

Mini Games

If you touch an animal with the touch pen when there is a special icon over
its head, you can play a mini-game. Aim to do well at them because getting
good results can raise an animal's level of affection or give you produce
from that animal.

The Main Mini-Games

Petting Game

Pet the animal by sliding the touch pen. The more you pet it, the more its
level of affection will increase.

Milking Game

Touch the button in time with the moving cursor. You can get either an
large milk (L), a medium milk (M) or a small milk (S).

Shearing Game

Touch the sheep that are running around to shear them. The more animals you
touch, the more wool you can get.

Get Your Pets to Like You!

You can get your pets to like you more by playing mini games with them. The
more your pets like you, the better they will perform at yearly competitions.

Getting on Good Terms with the Other Residents of the Islands

If the other residents have a high level of trust in you, you may be able to
experience new events. Also, during the progress of the game, new residents
may come to the islands.

Daily Conversations

The most basic way to get on good terms with other characters is to talk to
them every day. After finishing your farm work for the day, try to socialize
with the other residents. Participating at festivals is another important way
to mingle.

Giving Gifts

If you give a resident a present that really fits with his/her hobby or
tastes, that resident's level of trust in you will increase a lot. You can
judge a resident's likes and dislikes by monitoring his/her reaction to your
present.

Getting Married

When talking to other residents of the islands, some characters may have a
heart shaped symbol next to them to indicate their level of trust in you.
Depending on how deeply that character trusts you, you may be able to marry
that character. Be active in talking to the person you may be interested in
marrying.
