Horror Movies, boo! Options

Who doesn't love them? I used to be hesitant to watch horror flicks, but now I can't stop. Not new ones, though. The whole "jump-out" scaring thing is so stupid and unsatisfying, but the good old fashioned Stephen King's or Hitchcock's and others are really great. In fact, I'm in the middle of Misery and finished Christine this afternoon. Misery is much better. :D

So, what's y'all's opinion on horror movies? Like them, or can't bear to watch them? Are the new ones getting too cliché and dumb? Or does the monster popping out from behind a corner get you amped?

I don't pay any attention to those newer movies 'cause almost every one of them manages to look dumb. Not that classic horror movies aren't kinda dumb either, but c'mon. They need to try harder than stories I heard when I was 4 and royally screwing up Japanese movies. =\

Of course, my favorite horror movie subgenre is the zombie flick. Such movies have failed to be as good as they were before, focusing too much on body count and not doing the intermittent scenes very well. See the Dawn of the Dead remake? Pathetic.

Yeah, after watching One Missed Call and When A Stranger Calls, I've been turned off of newer "horror" movies. Can they even be put in that category anymore? It's like they try too hard. The originals are great. <3

Just finished Misery, and I must say, another good one by Stephen, but less scary, more gore/insanity. I still need to see the good The Shining, though. "It" was just lame, though. Didn't like that one. And The Birds was just too funny to not laugh at. Silly Tippi Hedren(sp?). Can't say I have a favorite, though.

Oh God.. Don't mention The Shining. It's pretty gross, weird and well, it'll freak you out I'm sure lol.
I love Misery. But I hate when she takes the sledgehammer....

One of my 'oldies' favourite would be Psyco. Even though obviously it's aged now I still love it. I've also seen a remake of it with Vince Vaughn and Vince looks like he only weighs about 10 pounds haha.
Also, with The Birds, it's aged aswell. I'm sure it would've been more scary back in the 50's {that was when it was made right?}.

Stephen King really isn't a favourite for me. He's done sooo many books turned into movies that a lot of them just seem like he had a slight hint of a crappy idea and made it into a book.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/declaring_tb.gif) The ONLY new one I liked is "I Am Legend" atleast zombies came from something other than a military project gone wrong (or right ;] ) but they did change things like in the book they're really vampires and whole bunch of other scenes were left out when they should've put them in. Otherwise, Greatt show!


As for the upcoming "Quarintine" it looks like a bunch of horror flicks and games I've played and seen put together. If you go to Gamestop, there is a chance you might get some sneak-peeks, they're so scary!

Yeaaah. I only saw the lamed-down TV version of The Shining; twas pretty funny. Carnivorous topiaries, lol. Misery's just hilarious. Bi-polar + sledgehammer = WOO. Looked painful as anything, though. XDD The pig was the best. I get a kick out of The Birds just because Tippi runs around like an idiot, flailing around, just to get attacked by a seagull. 8D Still need to see Psycho.

Some of Stephen King's movies are pretty good; others are just… yeah. Never seen I Am Legend; looks more adventure or something than horror. o__o Currently watching Halloween V, though, which doesn't make much sense since I've never seen the first ones. XD; Also, speaking on the subject, what's with horror sequels? What? Who needs like, eight Saws? Just, no.

I am eager for Halloween tonight, but vow to indulge on AMC's Horror marathon until then. :DDD

I saw I am Legend. Pretty weak. Not very scary. Not going to see Quarentine. It doesn't look very scary. I would only go if we went with a lot of those easily scared hot girls. Lol.

I get scared too easily. So I haven't watched many scary movies...but I have watched just a bit of them when my dad was, but I forgot their names. :o

I don't know if I'd really count I am Legend as a horror film. It does have zombie creatures though so maybe it does count after all. Either way, I Am Legend is awesome (though, it's not really scary) and don't let Toaster Boy tell you differently! I have the special edition with both versions of the film. Both are delightful!

Anyway, about horror films... I don't generally like them-- the new ones anyway. Most of them have horrible plots, pointless violence, and gratuitous nudity. Also, the characters are all overused stereotypes that I didn't like in the first place. In other words, I don't like them enough to hope they live, but at the same time I don't hate them enough to hope they get killed.

That being said, I'm sure there are some great horror films out there that are actually worth seeing. It's just hard to know which ones are actually good. For instance, The Sixth Sense (Does that count as a horror film? Eh, I'm gonna count it as one) is awesome. I actually like all of M Night Shyamalan's films...

There are some really good old ones too. Psycho and the Birds were mentioned earlier. Those are some oldies but goodies. Naturally, they might not be as scary as some of the ones made today, but they actually have a good storyline.

Well Alien was a horror/drama, Aliens has more action. It is up to you on which one is better.

I've actually never seen either of them. I kind of like the movies that cross into multiple genres though. Maybe I should check them out.

I really hate them, not because most are really crap, but because I can't handle that crud, I'm always scared shitless for a week or so. Girls seem to find it cute or something, but heck last one I saw was a tale of two sisters, nearly gave me a hartattack.

I like the survival kinda stuff the most, like a more recent movie I liked was the ruins which was amazing. but my favorite horror movie of all time is the first saw. that was great.

The only "horror" show that I actually enjoyed was the Exorcism of Emily Rose. It wasn't that scary but it was scary enough to make me jump, didn't give me nightmares, and actually had a plot.
I don't watch "gorey" shows (the Saw movies, Hostel movies, etc.), so I really don't watch too many horrors. There have been a few shows that I just couldn't finish watching:
-Texas Chainsaw Massacre
-House of Wax (I don't know what's wrong with me, but when he starts peeling his own skin off it just made me sick)
-Silence of the Lambs (I just... couldn't.)
