Rival Couples? Options

In the character section of the new Twin Villages page it had who your rival was for a certain person. I don't know I'm kind of depressed that people from other villages couldn't be couples (I thought Ash and Lincorice would have made a cute couple). But do think that Sage and Michael are really a rival couple. I mean they are the "special" marriage candidates for this game right? That would mean this is the first game where the "special" candidates have the chance to marry. Well marry someone other then the main character. I hope that's true because I always disliked the fact that if you didn't marry them they had to stay single forever.
