Well, now that we can trade via online without having each other's friend codes. trading is a lot easier, but until the pokebank goes into effect, certain Pokemon are still unavailable.

for those who don't know what the pokebank is, it is a cloud storage for your Pokemon. you'll be able to upload Pokemon from your old Pokemon (B/W/B2/W2) games and transfer them to your X/Y. it also checks for hacked Pokemon (unable to be uploaded, so the reports say). it will be released on December 25th in Japan and the 27th the US/Europe. You need to have a 3DS to do this and the uploads from B/W/B2/W2 will be one way, but 3DSes with the app will be able to upload/download with X/Y as often as possible. The bank will hold up to 30000 Pokemon and will have an annual service fee of $5.00/year.

If you download and run Pokebank by Jan 31, 2014, you will get a free 30-day pass to use with the service, however, no details are known yet of what happen if you don't pay after that.
stay tuned pokenatics!

FYI - being friends unlocks a third poke safari slot in that friend's park. My friend code is 0645-6633-6173. you can also become friends with any acquaintance if you trade with them (after a random number of trades, it may ask you both if you want to register each other).

The lasy for Pokemon Bank will be the same lady from Pokemon Box back on Gamecube that allowed you to store GEN III and the Gen I remakes.

Pokemon Ranch on Wii allowed you to store Gen IV pokemon.

My sister just bough another copy of Pokemon Y so she does not have to do Pokemon bank for storage becuase we don't have reliable internet anymore.
