I like animal parade, so so with tree of tranquility, currently playing through magical melody and loving that, and have started a file with back to nature, though MM is keeping my time spent right now, but I do like what I've seen. also, innocent life is right up there with my favorites.

as for ones I DON'T like:

original HM (reason being, it ends, and the time goes TOO fast.)
all wonderful life games (farming feels off, and seriously, killing seeds you walk on? not 4 me.)
HM64 (the "endless" mode doesn't let you farm! what's the point?!)
rune factory (rather not go there. it's just not my taste. don't bother mentioning them.)
save the homeland (new game+ is only ok if it's optional. not required.)

so now you generaly know my likes and dislikes. based on that, what harvest moon games on DS would I like? also, what GB harvest moons would you recomend, should they come to the 3DS virtual console? I played the first one, and I liked it pretty good, but if there was an end, I never saw it.

But, in Harvest Moon 64 you can farm forever. Literally. I don't even think the year counter has a limit. You could probably play up to 99 years before the game would glitch and reset it to "Year 1" without restarting your game. (Actually, finding out what the year counter limit is could be an interesting experiment.) And what's more is you can farm eternally too. The only way you wouldn't be able to farm forever is if your game got fucked up somehow and had glitched beyond repair. So, I have no idea what game you're talking about when you say that you can't farm.

Now, in BTN for Girl as well as other early titles that involved a female player, your game would end when you got married, but... I really can't remember a single game that doesn't end at a specific point where you can't farm after you finish the story, if there is a story.

Anyway, if you only like playing as a specific gender then I'd go for just the one version of DS that fits that. There's not enough of a difference outside of an extra marriage candidate for the girl to warrant buying both. Though, with DS you should also know that it has a plot kind of similar to Magical Melody in that you have to collect a certain number of somethings over the course of the game. (I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.) You may or may not like that. *shrugs*

And actually, the harming crops when you walk on them thing is something I was talking about. Most of the DS games have that feature. You'll just have to live with it. It's not really a deal-breaking feature anyway. You get used to it. *shrugs*
