So I'm taking the ACT for the first time on Saturday, and I'm getting pretty nervous. It's been a few weeks since I've gotten out of school so I feel kind of rusty in the knowledge department if you know what I mean. I know most of our older members have taken this (or atleast I think) so can anyone give a rookie any tips so I don't go in helpless?

Oh! On the writing portion, always make sure to include a counter argument. if you don't include one of these, they automaticly bump down your writing score. Just to clarify:
A counter argument is when you bring up something the oposing side would say, and then you shoot it down with a fact that makes it looks bad. For example, say the topic of the essay is Cats VS Dogs. Your essay is supporting the dogs. That would mean you would need to include a counter argument at some point saying something like "Cat owners could say that dogs shed just as much as cats. That is false because not all dogs shed." I also suggest you bring an extra set of batteries for your calculator. I know a lot of people whose calculators died in the middle of the ACT. |
