The game that showed the most interest in the initial (five replies long or so) discussion for the Freeware Gameclub was Yume Nikki and I feel I wanna go ahead and make this topic before I do something dumb and forget about it.
The game: The first game will be Yume Nikki, an RPG Maker game. Translated as "Dream Diary" the game is a fairly straightforward one. There is very little text, and a simple to follow plot. You play as a shut-in who refuses to leave their apartment. The only things to do are play a simple video game, or sleep and dream. Inside the dreamworld is where the core of the game lies, as you explore the mental world of the character with little to nothing indicating what each environment means as well as finding particular objects in these areas called "effects" that allow you to do various useful/unuseful things. The most enjoyable part of the game to the fanbase seems to be the interpretation possible as to what these areas, items, and events represent as you explore. The final note is that some of the areas and things in the game are fairly un-kid friendly. Areas can transition from more light dreams to nightmares fairly quickly, and at times, through completely random events. The download can be found here: http://rapidshare.com/#!download|46cg|...sh_v3.rar|56448 Since it's a rapidshare link, and I do not trust those fiends, I'd like to say to keep your internet shields up regarding the link. Not necessarily because of the file, but rapidshare themselves. It's the only one I can find, so it'll have to do for now. General Gameclub practice: The general idea of the gameclub is to play through free games we can all find and play easily and for anyone to jump in and discuss them. The games should typically take about a month to play and afterwards we will move on to another game someone has found/knows about or if the game is particularly short (or uninteresting) the change could happen sooner. This not only encourages people to play games, but to also go out and find them. Hopefully this works out. |

Darth, apparently the balloon thingy that flew past you is like the rarest event in the game. According to all the stuff I can find there's like a 1/3600 chance of that happening.
Anyway. Fell asleep, then went to bed while dreaming. Woke up at the top of some stairs, with crazy hands reaching all around everywhere. Wandered my way down, then through some shopping mall apparently filled with zombies. Ran around for a bit, and eventually found my way into some wooded area, where I made friends with a frog and learnt how to transform into one. It proved handy later, as I found some weird pastel-coloured lake place, where interacting with a balloon dropped me into the water. Being a frog let me swim around at a decent speed, but I couldn't find anything and eventually woke up. |
