Unfortunately, Idler, most of Japan's 2600+ year long history was dismantled, burned, or otherwise destroyed during the Meiji Restoration in 1860's and 70's. Furthermore, what managed to survive that was really only brought to light after World War II, when they were making efforts to recover Japan's history. Also of note, in World War II, Japanese soldiers mainly used western artillery, not swords. The last era that the sword was really considered a militaristic weapon in Japan was prior to the Meiji Restoration, though they did see some continued use beyond that time.
The loss of historical relics as well as family heirlooms is probably miniscule in comparison to the number of lives consumed by this disaster. |
