Today was, so far, the worst day I've ever had. First, I was freaking out the whole day, thinking that I wasn't going to get a chance to talk to the theatre arts teacher. That prediction was right. That's the lesser of three evils. I was really busy during lunch, so I didn't eat and I had to survive on candy that a kind person gave me during band practice. That's still not the worst part. The worst part is the practice. During class, we didn't get anything done, and it turned into a lesson on rehearsal etiquette. Then during after school practice, we got even LESS done. We didn't finish setting up until fifteen minutes after rehearsal started, and we spent almost an hour trying to work with sound equipment until we finally gave up and turned the speakers off. The rehearsal etiquette was the worst it has ever been today. We didn't get any work done on the music, and after rehearsal we got a nice little speech from the director and the tech about how horrible we were acting. I'm thinking that I took it the hardest, because I'm actually trying to get better. The director said that if he has to, then he'll take out all of the kids that aren't trying at all and are just holding us back, but then we'll only have three or four people left in the front ensemble. That was a nice 20 minutes of my life where I was dying inside.

Am I the only one who currently feels like the world is just working against them?

The problem is, we're not getting better. We're staying at the same level because the kids that don't care are holding us back. We're almost getting worse, because of stupid things like staying set, not talking, cell phones off. Stupid stuff like that that can be fixed so easily but isn't.

So yell at them. Or single one out and make him (or her) feel guilty. If they don't truly enjoy the activity their engaged in, then they'll likely be gone soon enough.

Just keep in mind that high school extra-curriculars are more meant to be fun, and less about achievement.

Not band. Band is not an extracurricular. Band is a Fine Arts class. Fine arts classes have extracurricular classes tied into them, and competitions as well. They require acheivement. They expect acheivement. Also, yelling won't work. That would turn me into a complete mini-tech. The fun is in the second semester when we aren't actually trying to do anything.

You're not marked as a group are you? (As in, everyone doesn't automatically get the same mark?)

If anything, these punks are gonna make you seem like a keener, by comparison. They might actually be responsible for boosting your grade.
