If you are using wireless connection, you will most likely have to configure it manually for the primary and secondary DNS servers. To find out your primary/secondary DNS numbers, you have to contact your ISP or login to your server configuration (your PC DNS server is it) and go through whatever section that indicates DNS servers. From there, it's pretty blatant, copy down your primary/secondary and punch it into your console.
DO NOT use your PC's DNS server because that is different than your primary/secondary. Microsoft PCs were designed to automatically configure itself when an update occurs whether it's wired or wireless connection to your router, it is just the way Microsoft has it manufactured/designed in which I can not explain. One thing is certain is that majority of PCs already run on DHCP which automatically receives IP addresses and DNS servers while consoles that are wireless are static which you have to punch in your primary/secondary DNS server and most likely obtain an IP address. If for some reason you do not obtain an IP address (which is highly doubtful) just punch in your PC's IP address. I'm pretty sure my words are poorly put together, maybe another IT professional who somehow stumbles upon this thread can elaborate my post to be more simple... But in my head it makes sense, hopefully it makes sense to you, James. |
