Crystal and I came up with this. Obviously, we aren't very close with our grandmothers. Are we the only ones?

My dad's mom died a week after my older brother was born so I never got to meet her. Everyone says she was extremely nice and giving and loving and that she would've loved to have a granddaughter. We have a picture of her in our living room and she looks like a movie star from the 30's - she's sitting at a table with her elbows on it and she just looks perfect.
After she died my dad's dad {who passed this year} re-married a woman from China who we now consider my step grandma because she's so nice but I didn't get to meet her until last year once he got sick, which is sad things have to hit rock bottom to do anything. Buut, my grandma that is still alive, I love her. She has her annoying qualities like we all do - she's a perfectionist and always has her house neat and wishes {like everyone it seems above haha} I showed 'more skin' and that I tanned or kept my hair from when I was 8. I would kind of get annoyed with her a lot but the past couple years I've realized that they won't be around for very much longer and I don't want to regret not spending enough time with her or not loving her. She's had such a hard life {she was born in Ireland as the second oldest but her older sister died very young} and she had to quit school at the age of 10 because her mother became so ill. My nana is also in incredible pain but paints everyday, bakes everyday and never complains. Yeah, they may pick on stupid little things but I'm sure we'll all be like that when we're 70 years old. |
