Hey!
I was just wondering, how many people on here actually have jobs? If you do, then post what your job is and any other info about it! Like, are you happy, how much you get paid, how you got it, etc. |

Ooh Job History? Fun! I have had too many jobs since a lot of them were only for a summer.
Babysitting (Age 12-14/Ongoing) - I babysat full time one summer... 9-5 monday-friday for two months. I made like 8 bucks an hour, when minimum wage was 6.50 and I was 12 so not bad. I don't babysit much anymore but I totally would if someone asked me... I love kids so much it's stupid. I also babysat for younger cousins and whatnot quite often. Hostess/Information (15) - My first "real" job. I worked in a bird sanctuary and I had like butterfly displays up and I knew a bunch about all the birds in the area and what not. I worked for the "salmon arm bay nature enhancement society" and once a week I'd have to go out onto the wharf and count the birds that were out there, since salmon arm was one of two grebe nesting spots in western bc and we had to make sure their numbers weren't declining. We had a few ospereys and pelicans too. I also had to send out letters to businesses in the town asking for funding. It was a pretty sweet and relaxed first job... I only got it because I spoke french. It was a summer time only thing though. Since it was sort of with the city I got paid like 7 bucks an hour. My bosses were all hilarious 80 year old men, I loved it when we would have "meetings" haha. Bootlegger (16) Bleh at working in retail. I hated my coworkers, I hated my shifts, I hated my job. I hated that we had quotas we had to meet but weren't actually paid commission. My managers sucked... my coworkers were all seriously stupid and most of them still work there like 4 years later. Minimum wage was up to like 7.50 or something at this point, that's what I was getting paid. Front desk at Gym (17) This was such a sweet job. It was a tiny little gym that like no one ever went to and I had to take a special course because of the equipment we had so I got paid like 11 an hour. We had a massage table and we worked by ourselves so I would always just fall asleep on the massage table and I'd wake up if anyone came in (which they never did.) Eventually the lady sold the place because they were losing money (probably because she was paying us so much haha) so I left that job. Restaurant Expediter (17) This was a really fun job too. We got paid minimum wage plus tips. I basically ran food from the kitchen to the tables in a super fancy restaurant. I got along well with the other expediters (the servers were all a bit older than us) and whenever we weren't doing anything we got to eat the bread that you get when you're waiting for food, so that was sweet. I worked really hard at that job so the head chef liked me a lot so that was really helpful... he didn't like one of my coworkers so much and kind of gave him a hard time. Swim Teacher/Lifeguard (17-18) Definitely my favourite job I've ever had. I got to be around kids all day, playing around in an outdoor pool during the summer. I got amazing tans, I worked with two of my best friends, I got paid 13 bucks an hour... life was great. Barista (18) At my mom's coffee shop. I made 9 bucks an hour plus tips. It was also a great job. I worked with mostly sweet staff and the one girl that we hated left after a month so that was awesome. I worked with my mom and my little brother so that was fun. It was just a fun job in general. Starbucks (19) Yay, where I am now. Still a barista. It's an okay job... I get paid 9.10 an hour plus tips but I'll get a raise in September so that's awesome. I really like my coworkers and we hang out outside of work all the time so that's a good time. It looks great on a resume and I know that I'm good at my job so I just stick with it. If you notice ages, one summer I worked 3 jobs (at the gym, at the pool and at the restaurant) and I worked about 70 hours a week. The next summer I only had the two jobs (pool and the coffee shop) but I was still pulling in 70 hour weeks. I got paid a LOT of money those two summers! |
