Saffy stopped running, and sat down on a treetrunk, exhausted. Panting for breath, he looked back along the path, but it was empty. He seemed to have given her the slip. If he hadn't, he was done for. He just couldn't run anymore.
After a minute, he got up, dusted himself off, and set off. Safe, he thought. But I must say, what a close escape. If that woman had caught me, I'd hav- He stopped, not believing his eyes. His jaw dropped. It was simply too impossible, but there they were. Three tiny little men, in little green Christmas elf costumes, with matching bobble hats. And green hair. They were playing with a toy train at the foot of a tree. One of them was eating on a tomato. They appeared not to have noticed him. Saffy stared, dumbstruck. It was beyond him why he could see these little men. He racked his memory, but he couldn't remember taking any non-prescription medication in the last 24 hours. Neither had there been anything to drink recently but cold spring water (more's the pity, thought his subconscious grimly). But there they were, against all probability and rational thought or logic. And they appeared to be sparkling. One of the little men looked up, smiling. "Hullo!" he said. "Would you like a tomato, budum?" Saffy tried to speak, but his tongue seemed to be tangled in a knot. "Don't be shy," said one of the others. His voice was strangely high-pitched. "Celia gave us a dozen for helping with the harvest, budum." The first speaker was staring at him curiously. "Hey, you're not from around here. Maybe... I got it! You must be from Mineral Town, down that way!" Finally, he managed to say something. All that came out was "Urg", but it was a start. "Come on," said the one holding the train. "We'll take you back to the Treehouse. It's not often we meet new people." The little man took Saffy's hand, and they started off down the path, Saffy too stunned to do anything else. "W-what are you?" he managed. The little man turned round, smiling. "We're the Harvest Sprites, silly! What did you think we were?" he said, laughing. "Hallucinations," answered Saffy with certainity. "That's all you could be. Hallucinations brought on by that crazy farmer woman chasing me round." The sprites all chuckled. "I heard that Vesta had found a man wandering round her farm." Saffy just nodded, and kept on following the leading sprite. "My name's Vail," said the sprite, "and these are Fraw and Matthew." "My name's Matt, too," said Saffy, in a kind of dazed confusion. Just who the heck were these little people? Was this some kind of trick? It had to be. Either that, or the previous events in this crazy valley had messed up his thoughts. Following the laughing sprites, Saffy continued down the path. Little could he foretell about the terrible events about to unfold. * * * Feedback & ideas now please~ |

Saffy sat outside with his head in his hands. It'd just seemed so easy. But now, he had nothing left. It looked like he'd have to beg for some more money from Lumina. He sighed.
A comforting hand patted him on the back. "Don't worry, moi." Saffy looked up into a wide, smiling, bearded face. A small, rugged man was standing over him. "Wh..who are you?" Saffy asked. "Murrey's name is Murrey, mine. Don't worry, moi. Murrey loses often also." "Y-you do?" "Plenty of times, moi. Murrey is not good at the cards. But Murrey is good cook, says fat man in purple suit. Here." Murrey offered Saffy half of a sandwich. It smelled delicious but looked rather suspect, so Saffy waved it away. "Not hungry, moi?" Murrey seemed taken aback. "No, thank you." replied Saffy. It was beginning to rain again. "Hey... do you know any way I could get home?" "You're from away too, moi? Murrey also misses his family, mine." "Really?" Saffy looked up. "Murrey is saving up to go home, moi. But he also makes wish to the Goddess." "Goddess?" Oh, great, Saffy thought. These guys are evangelists too. "Throw a present in the pond and make a wish, moi. Sometimes pretty lady appears, sometimes Murrey falls in." Murrey began to walk away. "Has to be good present though. Don't give boots. Murrey tried once and pretty lady slapped him." "Huh." Saffy looked at the gently rippling waters of the pond. The poor man must be out of his mind; he seemed to believe that there was a goddess living in the pond. Well, it was worth a try. Saffy looked around, and found a bunch of flowers growing nearby. He picked them and tossed them into the pool. They sank, and the waters parted amid sparkles of colour... "Tadaaa!" A beautiful woman with green hair dressed in silks and, for some odd reason, grapes, emerged from the pool. "I am the Harvest Goddess, noble traveller," she spoke in a voice as soft as summer rain. "I thank you for your gift. How may I help you?" Saffy stared, mouth wide open, until he regained his senses. He had to be dreaming, but it was worth a try. "I... I'd like to go home," he said, stammering. The woman smiled. "Certainly. I shall send y-" "Ανάθεμά σας με την πιο βαθιά βάθη των ωκεανών!" A voice thundered out of the nearby bushes, and out burst a pretty, bedraggled looking young woman with long, golden hair, black robes and a witch's hat. The Harvest Goddess stopped, mouth open, and began to turn pale. Her skin turned the colour of stone, and she dropped into the pool with a loud splash, soaking Saffy with water and leaving a small fish spluttering on his head. The witch frowned. "It was supposed to make her shut up," she said, shaking her head. "but once again, she turns to stone. Why in the name of me does that keep on happening?" The witch noticed Saffy, standing wet and aghast. "Hey, who are you?" she asked, annoyed. "Another one of my sister's wellwishers? Well, you can take this! Μπορεί να σας αποσταλεί κάπου μακριά και ήπια δυσάρεστα!" The world vanished into darkness. When Saffy awoke, the first thing he noticed was that the world was still really dark. The second thing he noticed in the very dim light was that he was in some sort of mine. The third thing he noticed was that a small, grey chicken was angrily trying to peck his head open. Vegetarian or not, he swatted the angry chicken aside and inspected his surroundings. The witch had sent him into some old mining tunnels. There was a small trapdoor set into the ceiling, with a rope ladder hanging from it. He began to climb the ladder, and opened the trapdoor, finding himself in - yes, another tunnel, with another trapdoor in the ceiling and another chicken, albeit one that was sleeping. However... A pretty young girl with long, dark hair was asleep on a large double bed in the middle of the room. There was a small sign next to her. Saffy walked up and read it. It said, Please bring me a finest curry and some relaxation tea. Then bring me jewels and gold. Only then will I be your bride. "Well, screw this." Saffy tossed the sign aside, and started towards the trapdoor. Reconsidering, he stopped and went back to the bed before exiting the tunnel. When the girl awoke, she would find herself completely naked, and minus her panties. * * * I should, like, totally get a creative medal for this. |
