Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong I love this game. I'm just expressing an opinion.
I just feel that the translation of this game was a little sub-par. When I was originally reading some of the rough translations for Tree of Tranquility I was really excited. The dialogue actually had arks that were appropriate to your relationships with the other characters, and all of the characters' dialogues were different and unique. I felt that they had brought back the characterizations and feelings that had endeared me in Harvest Moon 64 when I was a wee tot. While the characters basically stayed true to the Japanese version of the game, I felt that that after marrying some of the guys, they threw character out the window. After marrying Gil, who was normally cold and reserved, he became very "Hey sweetie pumpkin sugar lumps <3". To top it off, that wasn't even consistent; he would flip the love switch off and go back to talking about the notice board in a matter of seconds. Perhaps I'm expecting to much, but after reading the rough translations of the original dialogue and then to see it change so oddly, I can agree with some of the game reviewers who were disappointed in the lack of slightly realistic relationships. Aside from that Natsume consistently delayed the game to the point where I was unsure if it was ever even going to come out. I love the game to death don't get me wrong. But Natsume has disappointed me. Agree? Disagree? Comments? Thoughts? |

I don't think that has anything to do with the actual translations. That's just the way the conversations go in the game; Say one thing, and then mention something totally different the next moment. I have a feeling they did that in the Jap version, too. But yeah, I was dissappointed with the dialogue in general. Kind of. Mainly with the lack of mentioning of other characters, if that makes sense (Did the Mayor ever really mention Gill was his son? >_> Yeah, stuff like that). |
