Post your time trials from Mario Kart Wii! Include your character and vehicle too if you'd like.
Personally I started doing time trials again and have improved quite a lot over my rankings from a few months ago. I tend to use my Mii and the Mach Bike, though some courses call for certain setups. Bold times indicate that I beat an expert staff ghost. An asterisk * indicates I am within one second of beating an expert staff ghost. Luigi Circuit = 1:19.373 Moo Moo Meadows = 1:24.965 Mushroom Gorge = 1:59.020 Toad's Factory = 2:05.274 Mario Circuit = 1:31.151 Coconut Mall = 2:12.530 DK Summit = 2:15.835 Wario's Gold Mine = 2:09.281 Daisy Circuit = 1:41.267 Koopa Cape = 2:41.164 Maple Treeway = 2:37.484 Grumble Volcano = 2:12.915 Dry Dry Ruins = 2:12.154 Moonview Highway = 1:57.850 (probably my favourite course) Bowser's Castle = 2:48.951 Rainbow Road = 2:52.494 GCN Peach Beach = 1:22.338 DS Yoshi Falls = 1:07.069 SNES Ghost Valley 2 = 0:58.749 N64 Mario Raceway = 1:55.205 N64 Sherbet Island = 2:27.000 (I save my mushrooms in case I hit a penguin) GBA Shy Guy Beach = 1:31.174 (the trick is to drive almost entirely in the water) DS Delfino Square = 2:19.080 GCN Waluigi Stadium = 2:11.330 DS Desert Hills = 1:50.835 GBA Bowser Castle 3 = 2:35.679 N64 DK's Jungle Parkway = 2:36.162 GCN Mario Circuit = 1:48.588 SNES Mario Circuit 3 = 1:26.617 DS Peach Gardens = 2:16.639 GCN DK Mountain = 2:36.339 N64 Bowser's Castle = 2:54.919 Post your times! I want to know how I rank with others on the forum. |

With a lot of challenging and frustrating times, I've beaten every staff ghost. :)
Although, I havn't played in such a long time so I probably stink now. |

Yes, but staff ghost or expert staff ghost? I've beaten every staff ghost too to get the second Mii outfit. The real challenge is the expert staff ghosts.

Hmm experts? Is there anything you unlock for beating all of them? Like I said I havn't played in such a long time, I may remember though if I could remember a unlockable object that you recieve from beating them.

You unlock experts when you beat the regular staff ghosts by a few seconds. It depends on the course but it's usually 5 seconds under the staff ghost time. I don't think you win anything beating all of them though.

I don't think I beat them then! Huh, at least I have a new challenge for me to make an attempt at. :)

Did all of these with my Mii (medium) on the Mach Bike.
Luigi Circuit = 1:17.059 Moo Moo Meadows = 1:24.925 Mushroom Gorge = 1:59.477 (most hated course) Toad's Factory = 2:05.390 Mario Circuit = 1:32.579 Coconut Mall = 2:11.801 DK Summit = 2:09.475 (favorite!) Wario's Gold Mine = 2:04.009 Daisy Circuit = 1:40.374 Koopa Cape = 2:36.108 Maple Treeway = 2:35.291 Grumble Volcano = 2:07.144 Dry Dry Ruins = 2:09.311 Moonview Highway = 1:56.447 Bowser's Castle = 2:43.711 * Rainbow Road = 2:50.861 GCN Peach Beach = 1:20.779 DS Yoshi Falls = 1:08.934 SNES Ghost Valley 2 = 0:56.669 N64 Mario Raceway = 1:53.271 N64 Sherbet Land = 2:24.222 GBA Shy Guy Beach = 1:34.775 DS Delfino Square = 2:22.484 GCN Waluigi Stadium = 2:06.308 DS Desert Hills = 1:50.551 GBA Bowser Castle 3 = 2:17.444 N64 DK's Jungle Parkway = 2:30.533 GCN Mario Circuit = 1:46.603 SNES Mario Circuit 3 = 1:27.172 * DS Peach Gardens = 2:17.311 * GCN DK Mountain = 2:25.637 N64 Bowser's Castle = 2:47.973 I'm glad to see I got someone I can compete with on these! I used to go back and forth with a friend trying to see who could do better in SNES Ghost Valley 2 but eventually he gave up. |

I can see you've done these courses a lot. There's quite a few you've really impressed me on having sometimes more than a good 10 seconds on me. But I know there's a lot of room for improvement I have. I assume you don't use the same character and bike per level? That's one drawback for me; I haven't gone off to find the best setup per race.
I'm glad I at least beat you on Moonview Highway. |

Actually, I popped in the disc and checked and some of my times were completed with the Wild Wing (high drift M car), and I should be able to beat those without trying using the Mach Bike. But otherwise every single race I did using the Mach Bike and my Mii. It's a great vehicle because it drifts amazingly, allowing you to cut a lot of corners, and has high top speed and boost ratings. It's only weak on acceleration and off-road but in a time trial those aren't really an issue. A lot of courses I think the issue is knowing if you can cut corners effectively (inside track is always best). GBA Bowser Castle 3 has a part where if you use your mushroom right, you skip a decent chunk of the stage, saving about 10 seconds per lap.
While I had my disc in, I tried Wario's Gold Mine and Daisy Circuit again and beat those two ghosts and my old times, I'll update them later. Was like 1:40 for Daisy's and 2:04 for Wario's. |

I did some Time Trials today to help get back into my groove. I ended up beating five new Expert Ghosts. I think that's pretty productive. I'm still plowing through Time Trials though as I want all my times to be very consistent with my best times. But it's certainly taking a long time to do.
I'd also like to admit I hate Mushroom Gorge. Those mushrooms in the cave are such a pain. I find myself never doing any tricks just to avoid falling into a pit. |

I tried going back to Shy Guy Beach but no matter how hard I try I can't come close to your time. I usually stay on the side (and not in the shallow water), but I think the main issue is that I'm losing speed for briefly touching the shallow water in a few locations.
For Maple Treeway, another favorite, if you have a vehicle with good enough drift, the biggest place to save time is that one sharp turn after the Wigglers, where if you keep going you hit one of those half-pipe ramps. The trick is to tightly drift around the corner and not hit those half-pipes. This works well in other stages like the DK Mountain courses and Waluigi Stadium. |

Yup, I've noticed you can save a lot of time by greatly reducing your air. You can angle your bike as well by pressing up or down though I'm still not entirely sure if I'm making a significant difference. After the Wiggler part of Maple Treeway with the half-pipe, I just try to make as sharp a turn as possible which ends up costing me a wheelie.
Another case is DK Summit where you're going down the hill through all the bumps and some ramps. I find it better to avoid the ramps altogether and get a lot of tricks on the bumps. You greatly reduce your air time and can get a lot of speed coming out of the hill into the turn. I would love to know how you're beating me though. As for GBA Shy Guy Beach you really need an off-road bike. A small character helps a lot too. You want to drive almost entirely in the water so as to cut back on a great deal of time and distance traveled. That course took me a long time to do successfully though. |

Lots of corner cutting. Both DK Mountain levels (the snow one and the rock one) have twists with gaps over them. The trick is to use your mushroom to take large shortcuts over these gaps. Also, actual half-pipes like where they have the shy guys snowboarding at the end, you should ride the top of the half pipe and take slight lifts and do tricks, which makes it a lot like that bump part where you're constantly getting speed boosts and not getting caught in the air.
I'm fairly sure tilting your vehicle doesn't make a difference, or at least not for bikes (I don't bother with cars anymore). Made a huge difference in F-Zero though, to the point where you could literally fly through a number of places. |

I might have to give that a shot.
I knew about cutting one of the turns completely on DK Mountain, but I hadn't tried it with DK Summit before. It was a necessity on DK Mountain to beat the expert ghost I found. |

Alas, I have finally managed to beat the expert ghost for Mushroom Gorge. I ended up taking the mushrooms on the right and only doing tricks on the first two. The rest I play it safe then use the mushroom and a power slide once hitting the grass. Taking the right mushrooms ended up saving me a new two to three seconds along with my sanity on those mushrooms.

Updated my times, beat a few more ghosts and stuff. I'm still fairly sure you don't get anything for beating all the expert ghosts, though.

What weight do you guys feel the most comfortable with? I tend to go with Yoshi on the mach bike, but sometimes I just race better with Rosalina. Any ideas on why that happens?
As for ghosts.... ._____. I am terribad at this game. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lalaexdee.gif) |

Middleweights are my favorite because they have an even blend of acceleration/turning and max speed. Mach Bike is excellent cuz it handles really well and goes pretty fast. It only sucks when you get knocked off course or hit by something big like a blue shell.
Heavyweights have a higher top speed but lower handling and acceleration. If you can figure out how to handle them and you don't get hit too much, a heavyweight will perform better. |
