One of my projects for this term has been to make a 3D game with a group. We chose to do Harvest Moon, and it's basically due in two weeks XD We've done a little bit, but we had just recently experimented with height maps in class and I was very impressed so we suddenly have to go in and change our game to it x.x A fair bit with so little time. In any case, hoping to spark some interest, here is a little demo of the mapping system which uses *GASP* Kyle's tiles! It might not be overly amazing to some, but having coded this I am very impressed <3 It's also cool to see Kyle's sprites in 3d o.0

You can download the little demo here :P

Controls
g - increase speed
w - forward
s - backward
mouse - change direction
esc - exit

You can fly around and look at the map D: This entertains me a lot. You'll have to fly out, because you start in an awkward position.

Looks very nice! It's definitely a lot better than anything I could ever program. If you need graphics or w/e, let me know.

5/5 ;D

I'd like the help, and believe me, we need it, but I don't know what you could do XD I'm really scared though now. We have two weeks and next week is entirely assignments x.x Somehow we're supposed to pull off this demo in less than a week of actual work? Sincerely doubting it, but miracles can happen...

I am thinking you can just make the bare elements of this game to turn in, but after you've submitted it, you can continue working on it.

Yeah, we probably can. Originally we made our scope so huge, but there's just no way we can do this. I didn't realize we had so much homework due next week...

Nah, we're very tight as it is right now. I do have plans for another game, but I have no way of coding with C++ until September... *grumble *

We'll see :) The group should be meeting tomorrow, so maybe it'll come up.

To update, the game now has AWL-style movement and camera. I like to play around with it, but the map still needs to be done...

Who are the writers? Not so much as I would like to be one, I just want to know the story.

We have someone in the group doing the story aspects. It probably won't have much effect on the demo, given the focus is more on examples of what you could do - i.e. farming and talking to villagers. It's not going to be an in-depth demo, probably only 10 minutes D:

We got another week to get the game done which means there'll probably be more stuff into it to make it better. The prof said we were on the right track to getting 100% on the game <3 After telling the group, they seemed quite pleased. But nevertheless I digress, here's an updated version.

The map in the game is not the one shown in the screenshots, to use that download Jason's Map and replace the old new_map.raw with it (entitled new_map.raw). You can actually edit this file to play around with the map too :P

Download:

So yeah, what's new? We learned to import actual models which are hidden somewhere in the map. And, I was trying to learn more 3D programming so I did a jump and fall function which I find very entertaining. Controls are fixed too :P

Controls
A/S - rotate camera
Arrows - move
D - jump
Z/X - zoom

There's a rather useful glitch where you can get stuck in a wall and keep jumping up. That's not supposed to happen, but hey XP

Anyhow, Jason's actually doing the map now. The guy has put an incredible amount of effort into it and I truly can't wait to see how it turns out o.0 There may be another release for tonight :P

Oh my god, I've been playing this ALL day. Seriously. I can't even count the hours. Reminds me of way back when I made my own dos games. =]

It's so fun designing a map. I can't wait until matt posts an update. You guys should attempt to as well.

Meh, an update :P Jason changed the map a lot and I made a few tweaks. I need to learn to fix up the tiles and generate them properly x.x
